Marsena Cannon — Remarkable Providence in the Dixie Mission Call

In 1861, Marsena Cannon was called by Brigham Young to join the 'Cotton Mission' in St. George, Southern Utah. At the time, Cannon was struggling financially in Salt Lake City and lacked the necessary team, wagon, and supplies to relocate his family to the harsh desert environment. According to family records and DUP manuscripts, the family made the matter a subject of intense prayer. Shortly thereafter, a series of 'remarkable providences' occurred where Cannon was able to trade his professional daguerreotype equipment and other small holdings for the exact livestock and provisions required for the journey. This timely provision was viewed by the family as a direct answer to prayer, enabling them to fulfill their pioneer mission to Southern Utah.
