Sarah Maria Mousley Cannon — Healing in St. George

During the mid-1860s, while residing in the harsh conditions of St. George, Utah, during the early years of the Cotton Mission, Sarah Maria Mousley Cannon fell dangerously ill. Her husband, Angus M. Cannon, noted that her condition was so severe that her life was despaired of by those attending her. Sarah Maria, exercising her faith, requested a priesthood blessing. According to family records, during the administration of the blessing, she felt a distinct sensation of warmth and 'new life' flowing through her body. She experienced a rapid and complete recovery, which the family attributed to divine intervention and the power of the priesthood. This event occurred while the family was living in a small three-room adobe house on the corner of First South and Main Street in St. George.
