In the early 1860s, David H. Cannon personally visited and interviewed Martin Harris and David Whitmer, two of the Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon. Despite the fact that both men were at that time living apart from the main body of the Church, they each bore a solemn and independent testimony to Cannon regarding the reality of the Angel Moroni's visitation and the divine origin of the Book of Mormon. Cannon frequently shared these accounts throughout his life, particularly during his thirty-year tenure as St. George Temple President, to provide a living link to the foundational miracles of the Restoration.
