Robert Aveson: The Seventy Who Recorded Martin Harris's Witness of the Book of Mormon Plates (1874)

Robert Aveson, a president of the fourth quorum of the Seventy, was a faithful Latter-day Saint whose witness preserved one of the great testimonies of the Restoration. In 1874 he was present when Martin Harris—one of the Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon—testified to Edward Stevenson that he had seen the plates and the inscriptions thereon, and Aveson recorded that testimony. Decades later (1927) he himself recounted hearing Martin Harris bear testimony of the Book of Mormon. By preserving, in his own hand, the testimony of one who had beheld an angel and heard the voice of God declare the Book of Mormon true, Aveson helped carry the witness of the Restoration to later generations.
