On May 15, 1829, during the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood, the resurrected John the Baptist informed Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery that he was acting under the direction of Peter, James, and John. He prophesied that this higher priesthood, which held the keys of the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, would be conferred upon them in due time. This specific prophecy was fulfilled shortly thereafter by the appearance of the three apostles in the wilderness of the Susquehanna.
