Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery — Outpouring of the Spirit and Prophecy

Immediately following their ordination by John the Baptist, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery went to the Susquehanna River and baptized each other. Upon emerging from the water, they experienced a profound outpouring of the Holy Ghost. Both men were filled with the spirit of prophecy; Joseph Smith stood up and prophesied many things concerning the rise of the Church and the progress of the work, while Oliver Cowdery also prophesied regarding the future of the restoration and the impact of the scriptures they were translating.
