In the mid-1840s in Centerville, Delaware, Sarah Maria Mousley and her sister Ann Amanda attended meetings held by Latter-day Saint missionaries. Despite the social pressure and the initial hesitation of their father, Titus Mousley, Sarah Maria experienced a profound spiritual manifestation. She described a powerful, internal witness and an overwhelming sense of light and peace that confirmed the truth of the restored gospel. This spiritual manifestation was so distinct that it gave her the courage to join the Church in 1844 and eventually migrate to Utah in 1857, leaving behind her comfortable life in Delaware.
