As one of the early pioneer settlers of Henrieville and the Escalante region, Daniel Goulding faced extreme deprivation and the harsh conditions of Southern Utah's 'Dixie' frontier. The DUP manuscript records that during a period of severe food shortage, the Goulding family experienced a 'remarkable providence' where their needs were met through an unexpected provision of resources following earnest prayer. This event is cited as a foundational miracle for the Goulding family's survival during the initial colonization of the Garfield County area. The account is manuscript-sourced from the Kenneth Goulding history.
