Peter Barton: An English Convert, Kaysville Bishop, and Pioneer of 1862 (1845–1912)

Peter Barton (21 March 1845 – 28 November 1912) was born in Saint Helens, Lancashire, England, and came to America with his English parents at the age of seventeen as a Latter-day Saint convert (1862), settling in Kaysville, Utah. Brother Barton served as bishop of Kaysville and was among the Latter-day Saint bishops imprisoned for polygamy in the anti-polygamy prosecutions of the 1880s. His life is a faith-promoting witness of the English converts who gathered, served as bishops, and were willing to suffer imprisonment rather than forsake the principle the Lord had revealed.
