Karl R. Anderson: The Latter-day Saint Scholar of Kirtland and the Kirtland Temple Visions

Karl R. Anderson devoted decades of study and teaching to the sacred history of Kirtland, Ohio—the place where, in 1836, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared in the Kirtland Temple and where Moses, Elias, and Elijah restored priesthood keys (D&C 110). A resident authority on Kirtland, he co-authored "Teachings and Commentaries on the Doctrine and Covenants" and spoke widely in firesides on 'the Kirtland visions,' sharing the testimony of what happened in Kirtland in the early days of the Restoration. His careful historical and devotional work helped generations of Latter-day Saints understand that the Kirtland Temple was the site of some of the most remarkable heavenly manifestations of the dispensation—and that the Restoration rests on real, visitable, sacred places.
