In 1906, while visiting the British Isles, Angus M. Cannon, at the invitation of President Heber J. Grant, bore his testimony and related a sacred vision in which he saw the Lord Jesus Christ. In that same address he also stated that he had seen the Prophet Joseph Smith. Cannon described a profound sense of personal unworthiness during the manifestation, reflecting on his past “light speeches” and how he had “circumlocuted around the truths” in earlier sermons; he initially felt unable to approach the Savior. He characterized the experience as a “finishing touch” to his mature testimony and as confirmation of his divine calling. This account was later published in the Young Woman’s Journal.
