A widow was arrested and taken from her home to a prison where she was held for being a member of the Church. She was confined in a dungeon where a man had previously committed suicide, and in a space only three feet high. She suffered from hunger, thirst, and cold before being released with threats.

In Their Own Words

“A little while ago, one of our sisters, a widow, was away from her home, and was taken to a place to be examined concerning her knowledge or profession of religion. She was brutally insulted and compelled to sleep in horrid dungeons, in one of which a man had just before committed suicide, and in another that was not more than three feet high. After suffering hunger, thirst, and cold, she was at length dismissed with many threatenings. — Millennial Star 20:22”
