Shortly before the death of Elizabeth Morgan in London, Lorenzo Snow knelt to pray for her and felt the Holy Spirit in power, praying that her husband might be comforted. At that exact time, Sister Bates experienced an open vision of Elizabeth Morgan in robes of glory, which provided great comfort to the bereaved husband, Deacon Morgan.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

Sister Morgan's death was a scene of peculiar interest. She had been a faithful member of the Church, and her benevolence was manifested in her constant efforts to assist the poor Saints. Her departure was triumphant. A short time before she breathed her last, I called to see her, and found her in a very low state. I knelt by her bedside, and prayed that the Lord would comfort her husband, who was deeply afflicted at the prospect of losing his companion. While I was praying, the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me in a powerful manner, and I felt an assurance that her husband would be comforted. At the same hour of the night, Sister Bates, of this city, a worthy member of the Church, had an open vision, in which she saw Sister Morgan standing in full view before her, clothed in robes beautiful and white, and around about her head were clouds of glory, surpassing in splendor and brilliancy the sun at noonday. Sister Bates rejoiced in the vision. It was not a dream, but an open vision, continuing before her view for some considerable length of time. When I related to Brother Morgan the feelings I had while praying for him, and told him of the vision which Sister Bates had received, he was greatly comforted, and his sorrow was turned into joy.

In Their Own Words

“At the same hour of the night sister Bates, of this city, a worthy member of the church, had an open vision, in which she saw sister Morgan standing in full view before her, clothed in robes beautiful and white, and around about her head were clouds of glory, surpassing in splendour and brilliancy the sun at noonday. Sister Bates rejoiced in the vision. It was not a dream, but an open vision, continuing before her view for some considerable length of time. — Millennial Star 2:7”
