Mrs. Alexander was struck by a motor car on June 4, 1916, in Norfolk, suffering internal hemorrhaging and three fractured ribs, with one piece of rib piercing her lung. The doctor pronounced that she would not live twenty-four hours. Her husband, an elder, prayed and administered to her. Mr. Alexander prayed for the elders to come, though he did not know where they were. Simultaneously, President Werrett and Elder Yates in their quarters were looking through books, saw Mr. Alexander's name, and decided to visit him. They arrived at the Alexander home on the second day after the accident, directed to the house, and administered to her, after which she began to recover. She eventually regained health and walked fourteen miles to a baptismal service. A nurse, Anne M. Ayden, observed the family's faith and was later baptized.

He, therefore, immediately after the doctor's verdict, prayed that God aa^ouM restore his AAdfe to health again, at the same time administering to her in the name of God... Mr. Alexander greatly desired the presence of the elders, and prayed earnestly that God Avould send them to him... But on this particular day. President Werrett and Elder Yates Avere looking through the books in their quarters, Avhen they saAA' the name of Mr. Alexander as a subscriber to the Star... They had not been sent for, as above stated, and yet they were there just when most needed, a manifest token of God's guidance in answer to prayer. — Millennial Star 78:28”
