President Heber J. Grant recounts that when his daughter Lucy was a six-month-old baby, she was in a dying condition. He sought the assistance of John Rowberry, a Patriarch of the Tooele Stake, to administer to her. Although there was no immediate testimony that she would live during the administration, Rowberry received a spiritual impression that she would live, and he proceeded to give the infant a patriarchal blessing. In that blessing, Rowberry promised she would live to womanhood, marry a servant of God, and become a leader among her sisters in the Church. Years later, while Heber J. Grant was reading the names of the General Board of the Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement Association, he realized the fulfillment of this prophecy when he read his daughter's name, Lucy Grant Cannon, realizing she had indeed become a leader as foretold.

In a biographical sketch by Mary Connelly Kimball in the Young Woman's Journal, additional context regarding the illness is provided, noting that Lucy Grant Cannon was suffering from whooping cough when Patriarch John Rowberry was called to administer to her. The source includes a recorded portion of that patriarchal blessing: "I seal upon thee the blessing of life and strength to thy body that thou shalt grow up to perfection in all of thy parts and become a mother in Israel in due time, and the Spirit of the Most High shall rest upon thee. Thou shalt bear in mind the instructions of thy mother and appreciate the counsel and blessing of thy father and I seal upon thee the blessing of faith to be healed when thou art sick and rebuke the disease that is now preying upon thee. Thou shalt receive strength and animation to thy lungs. Thou shalt be healed of this affliction."

In Their Own Words

“Upon one occasion that little baby, six months old, was in a dying condition, and I was supplicating the Lord for her life. I sent out for this man, John Rowberry... I sent for him to come and assist me in blessing my little dying baby. After we had blessed the child, John Rowberry said: 'Looking at it naturally, Heber, your baby is dying.' I replied : 'I have no doubt but what she will die, if the Lord does not heal her—I don't believe any earthly power can save her.' He then asked: 'Did you get any testimony while we were blessing her that she was going to live?' I answered : ' No.' He said: 'I did, and she is not going to die. Go and get a table, some paper and a pencil, and sit down by this bed. I want to give your baby a patriarchal blessing.' — Millennial Star 84:1”
