While the Saints were traveling across the ocean on the SS Nevada, they encountered heavy seas and experienced seasickness, yet they held a meeting in the steerage on May 31, 1887, where the Spirit of God was manifested through the powerful testimonies borne by the brethren and sisters of different nationalities.
In Their Own Words
“Tuesday, the 31st. We had an enjoyable night in the steerage, the Spirit of God was manifest in the powerful testimonies borne by the brethren and sisters of different nationalities. We have had a fine day, and quite a few of the Irish passengers have been enjoying themselves in dancing on the upper deck. We met together with the Saints again to-night, and gave them counsel and instructions how to conduct themselves when landing. The weather has been very fine, and the sea quite calm, for which we feel to thank the Lord, as many of the Saints have been very sick, and are now beginning to feel much better. We have had a very pleasant time on board, and have been treated with great kindness by the officers and crew of the ship, for which we feel to thank them, and pray that the Lord may bless them for their kindness to us.”
