Brother Babcock, who resides in Loughboro' as a recent immigrant from the United States, made the decision to be baptized into the Church. This event was a surprise to the local Saints during a social gathering held at Sister Babcock's home.

In Their Own Words

“The majority of the Saints here met in a social capacity just lately at Sister Babcock’s, where a great surprise awaited them, and also a well prepared tea. On arriving it was ascertained that our worthy host had complied with the ordinance of baptism, and all felt to rejoice on receipt of the good news, more especially his wife. Brother and Sister Babcock hail from Uncle Sam's Republic,” and are, therefore, pretty well acquainted with affairs in Zion, and we feel that it is good to have their presence and support in this district, for it is our sincere wish that there may be more souls brought to a knowledge of the truth, and that those who are lukewarm in Loughboro’ will see their condition and begin anew. — Millennial Star 62:34”
