Abraham H. Cannon — Heavenly Choir at the Salt Lake Temple Dedication
Published September 2, 2026 at 3:18 PM
On April 9, 1893, during the multi-day dedication services of the Salt Lake Temple, Abraham H. Cannon experienced a profound auditory miracle. While the earthly choir was singing, Cannon recorded in his journal that he clearly heard 'a voice, and then many voices, joining in the strains.' He described the sound as the 'most heavenly music' he had ever heard, noting that the voices of the heavenly host were distinct from and superior to the mortal choir members present. He felt a powerful spiritual witness that the building had been accepted by God and that heavenly beings were participating in the celebration. This event occurred in the presence of the General Authorities and hundreds of Saints gathered in the celestial room.
