Samuel Bennion: A Welsh Saint Baptized in Salt Lake (ca. 1847-1850s)

Samuel Bennion (born December 11, 1818) was a Welsh convert to the restored gospel, recorded among the early Welsh Saints. After emigrating to the Salt Lake Valley with his brother John's family, he was baptized by Bishop Abram Hoagland in Salt Lake. He and John arrived in the valley in September 1847 and joined the small body of Latter-day Saints then beginning to settle the Great Basin. His conversion and baptism is a faith-promoting witness of the early Welsh Saints who, having received the testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon in the old country, gathered to Zion and there took upon themselves the covenant of baptism at the hands of the Lord's servants.
