Henry B. Beckstead: A South Jordan Pioneer and Bishopric Member (1827–?)

Henry B. Beckstead (born 4 December 1827, Williamsburg, Upper Canada) was a Latter-day Saint pioneer who settled in South Jordan and served as a member of the bishopric of that ward. He selected the land immediately west of the first South Jordan meetinghouse to be set apart as a 'burying ground' for the Saints—the South Jordan Cemetery—so that the faithful dead of his community might rest in consecrated ground. Brother Beckstead's life is a faith-promoting witness of the pioneer bishops who, with their bishoprics, built up the wards, the meetinghouses, and even the burying grounds of the Latter-day Saint settlements.
