Baptismal Experience Brings Peace and Joy to William Adams in Ireland

William Adams of Ireland was baptized by Robert Hutchengson on Saturday evening, March 26, 1842, at the age of twenty years, two months and eighteen days. He was confirmed by William Johnston, presiding elder of the branch, on the Sunday following, which was Easter Sunday. Upon receiving these ordinances, Adams felt thankful to his Father in Heaven and experienced a transformation. Peace and joy filled his bosom immediately. However, his friends and acquaintances turned against him because he had obeyed the gospel and become a Mormon. Despite the persecution and loss of earthly relationships, the spiritual joy he received through baptism and confirmation sustained him.
