Patriarchal Blessing to Mary Isabella Hales Prophesies She Will Be Brought Through Six Troubles — Fulfilled

In 1838, while traveling through Missouri on the way to Far West, Mary Isabella Hales Horne had the opportunity to receive a patriarchal blessing from Joseph Smith, Sr. — the Patriarch of the Church and father of the Prophet. She recorded the experience in her journal:

'At a meeting held in that place I received a patriarchal blessing from Joseph Smith, Sr. He told me that I had to pass through a great deal of sickness, sorrow and tribulation but "The Lord will bring you through six troubles, and in the seventh He will not leave you;" all of which has verily been fulfilled.'

Mary Isabella subsequently endured extraordinary trials throughout her life: the death of her brother Elias at sea, the cholera epidemic in Toronto, the Missouri persecutions and expulsion, the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, the exodus from Nauvoo, the crossing of the plains, the death of both her parents during or after the pioneer trek, and the hardships of early pioneer life in Utah. Through all of these, the blessing proved true — the Lord brought her through every trial.
