A Hymn Led an Entire Family to Join the Church — 'Praise to the Man' Converts a Congolese Family

After hearing about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from a friend, the father of Pythagore Matubu began attending a branch near their home in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and asked his oldest son, Pythagore, to attend with him to help decide whether the family should pursue membership. The opening hymn in sacrament meeting that day was "Praise to the Man," a song about the Prophet Joseph Smith. Pythagore was immediately and deeply moved by the words and knew in that moment that this was where his family needed to be. The following week the entire Matubu family attended church together. Their father was baptized one week later, while the rest of the family began meeting with the missionaries. The whole family was baptized in May 1999. Music continued to strengthen the family's testimony; they sing together at home and help organize concerts in their area.
