In May 1899, Church President Lorenzo Snow visited St. George, Utah, during a severe drought that threatened the community's survival. During the visit, he received a powerful revelation impressing upon him the importance of tithing. He promised the Saints that if they would pay a faithful tithe, the Lord would open the windows of heaven and end the drought.

The Saints responded with renewed commitment to tithing, and rain came, breaking the drought. The financial principle of tithing was revitalized throughout the Church, transforming its financial stability for generations to come.
