A young sister working in a British workroom was approached by a colleague who noticed a distinct difference between the sister and other Christians. The girl asked, 'Do you know I have been watching you for a long time... You know that you have got something more than they have, and I want to know what it is.' The sister attributed this difference to receiving the Holy Ghost through the laying on of hands, noting that she was helped in her daily life and enlightened in her mind. This led to her coworkers respecting her, befriending her, and asking her to explain the scriptures.

In Their Own Words

“One morning lately I went into a work room when one of the young girls called me and I thought, Oh I suppose she has something to tell me about those “Mormons,” so I went up to her, and asked what she wanted me for, and she asked, ‘Do you know I have been watching you for a long time, and I have also been looking at other Christians, and I have been thinking what a difference there is between some of them and you!’ She then said, ‘You know that you have got something more than they have, and I want to know what it is. I have been trying to do what is right, but I can’t be like you, I wish I could.’ I felt very thankful to my Heavenly Father for this, and I told her that I was very glad she had spoken to me, and I would be very pleased to tell her all I knew. Of course I told her that I had received the Holy Ghost through the laying on of hands of God's servants, and I knew that I could not do anything good in my own strength. I told her that since I had been baptized, and had received the Holy Ghost through the laying on of hands, as it says in the New Testament, that I had been helped a great deal, and now it was not hard to live a good life, for the Holy Ghost was enlightening my mind, and leading me into all Truth. She listened very attentively, and since then she has been very kind to me, and has often asked me to explain the scriptures to her, and I have had many opportunities of bearing my testimony to her and others in the room, and they all seem to respect me, and are very kind to me.”
