A young man who had lived with Father Crook felt a deep desire to know God's will. He fasted for twenty-one days, praying seven times daily. Following this fast, he received a vision showing the history of the Church, including the voyage to New Orleans, the migration across the plains to the West, the building of a city and temple, and a future time where the Lord visits the temple to commend the Elders for their work. The vision was recorded to have been partially fulfilled in the life of the witness.
In Their Own Words
“Father Crook was a man of commanding presence, tall and straight, with hair and beard white as wool. In his travels Father Crook visited a village in the west of Scotland. There he met a young man who was a sincere seeker after truth. This young man had been deeply impressed with the idea that God had a work for him to do, but he did not know what it was. He felt that he must know the will of the Lord concerning him. He decided to fast and pray. He fasted for twenty-one days, and during that time he prayed seven times a day. At the end of this period of fasting and prayer, he was rewarded with a vision. He saw the history of the Church from the time of its organization. He saw the Saints leaving their homes and traveling to a far-off land. He saw them crossing the plains and mountains, suffering many hardships and privations. He saw them building a city and a temple in the midst of the wilderness. He saw the Lord visit the temple and express His satisfaction with the work of the Elders. He saw the Lord walk through the city and speak to the people, saying, 'Brethren, you have done well, you have done well.' The young man was told that this vision was for his own comfort and encouragement, and that he should bear testimony of it to the world. He did so, and many were brought to a knowledge of the truth through his testimony.”
