A well-to-do family in Liege, Belgium, including a merchant, his wife, and daughter, sought a testimony through fasting and prayer. After a day of instruction, they were convinced of the truth of the Gospel, left their position in the Catholic Church, and were baptized.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 58, No. 48, 26 November 1896):

Elder Pieper writes from Liege, Belgium, that he has been successful in opening the door for the Gospel in that city. A well-to-do family, consisting of a merchant, his wife and daughter, have been convinced of the truth of the Gospel, and have been baptized. They sought a testimony through fasting and prayer, and after a day of instruction they were convinced of the truth of the message.

In Their Own Words

“So the gentleman, his wife and daughter, appointed a day of fasting to give the subject prayerful thought. They invited Elders Pieper and De Graff to come and they would devote the whole day to the investigation of the scripture... At the end of this, time the gentleman stood up and gave Elder Pieper his hand and said, “I see Pieper, for I call you Brother, because I am convinced now that the Gospel is true. I want you to baptize me.” — Millennial Star 58:48”
