When Samuel Whetton was nine, his father was suffering from smallpox, a disease that had already killed two of the father's brothers. While Samuel's mother was praying for the family's protection, she heard an audible voice that stated, 'Fear not, daughter of Zion. This plague shall not come near thy dwelling.' The father recovered and the family was protected from the illness.
In Their Own Words
“When I was nine years old, my father was taken away from home suffering with an acute case of smallpox. Two of my father's brothers had died from the effects of this same disease. My mother, who was an ardent believer in prayer, gathered her children around her and poured out her soul in humble prayer to God for the protection of her loved ones. While she was praying, she heard a voice quite audible, which said, 'Fear not, daughter of Zion. This plague shall not come near thy dwelling.' This promise was literally fulfilled. My father was restored and returned home to us.— Millennial Star 86:16”
