Viacheslav and Galina Efimov, living in St. Petersburg, Russia, were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through their daughter. Despite initial skepticism, Viacheslav listened to the missionaries, which he described as a moment where their lives changed and they became a family. The conversion led to a significant restoration of their family life, as they began spending time together for the first time in over a decade. The family was baptized on June 9, 1990, and later sealed in the temple.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in ‘That Vast Empire’: The Growth of the Church in Russia):

Also in the spring of 1990, Tamara Efimova of St. Petersburg brought the missionaries to her home after meeting them at a friend’s home. Her father, Vyacheslav Efimov, was skeptical at first but decided to listen to the missionaries’ message. “From that moment,” he explained, “our life changed. We became a family. … Then for the first time in ten to twelve years, we began to spend more time together.” On June 9, 1990, all three were baptized. Four years later, they were sealed as a family in the temple.

In Their Own Words

“From that moment, our life changed. We became a family. … Then for the first time in ten to twelve years, we began to spend more time together. — Viacheslav Efimov, New Beginnings in Russia”
