Sophy Valentine’s Sister-in-Law Healed in Salt Lake City

The sister-in-law of Sophy Valentine had been bedridden for months with an abscess that doctors deemed fatal. When Valentine visited and prayed with the Elders, including Brother Goddard, the woman was able to retain food the next day and was performing her own housework a week later.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

My sister-in-law had been sick for months, and was confined to her bed. The doctors said she had an abscess, and that it was impossible for her to recover. She was so weak that she could not turn herself in bed, and for a long time had been unable to retain any food on her stomach. I felt that the Lord could heal her, and I asked Brother Goddard to come and administer to her. He came, and with him another brother. They administered to her, and the power of God was made manifest. The next day the sick woman was able to eat and also retain food on her stomach, in fact she never once vomited after the brethren had administered to her. That night the two brethren came again of their own accord and administered to her. Well, a week later she was up and doing her own housework. It was a great marvel to those who had seen her and knew her condition.
