President Rudger Clawson reports the baptism of six individuals in Sheffield, noting specifically that three of the new members are mutes (deaf and dumb) who learned the gospel through sign language and requested baptism.

According to the minutes recorded by Conference Clerk James D. Todd, this event occurred on November 24, 1912, at the Latter-day Saints' Church located at the corner of Ellesmere and Lyons Roads in Sheffield. President Rudger Clawson was joined at the conference by President A. Lavern Riggs, and the baptism of the six individuals took place between the afternoon and evening sessions of the conference.

In Their Own Words

“He also referred to six new members who had been baptized between the afternoon and evening sessions. Three among them were mutes—deaf and dumb. He spoke of the way in which they had received the gospel, by the sign language. They were intelligent and quick to learn, and as a result of their investigations they had requested baptism. — Minutes of Sheffield Conference, recorded by James D. Todd, in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74, No. 48, Nov. 28, 1912”
