Private G. Smith, a Latter-day Saint soldier stationed in France during WWI, was unexpectedly called upon by his officer to address his comrades in a religious meeting. Feeling weak and unprepared, he relied on the Spirit of God, which provided him with the words to speak and the strength to proclaim the gospel, an experience he recognizes as a miracle of divine assistance.
In Their Own Words
“I might say that while I have been out here I have had the privilege of speaking in a relirious meeting. I was called upon by my officer to speak to my comrades. It was a surprise to me. and and I felt very weak; but I relied upon the Spirit of God. and He put words into my mouth. I knew that of myself I could not say anything. I feel to thank my Father in heaven for this opportunity, and that I had the strength to proclaim the gospel of Christ. — Millennial Star 79:24”
