Nineteen years prior to 1922, John M. Knight planned to end business relations with his father and move elsewhere. After hearing President McMurrin speak at a Church conference about following the counsel of Church authorities, Knight sought guidance. The presiding authorities advised him not to move, and he followed this counsel, which he later testified he was thankful for.

In Their Own Words

“The speaker said that nineteen years ago he had planned to sever business relations with his father and move elsewhere. At the semi-animal conference of the Church he heard President McMurrin say that all should seek and follow the council and advice of the authorities of the Church. The next day he went to President McMurrin and the latter took his case to the presiding authorities, and they held that he should not go. He followed that advice, he said, and to-day is thankful for it. — Millennial Star 84:46”
