Mollie Higginson, after years of religious doubt and unsatisfying experiences in the Church of England, met Latter-day Saint elders. She felt a strong spiritual impression regarding their message. After praying for guidance and receiving confirmation of the truth, she was baptized by Elder L. G. Corbridge. Upon baptism, she experienced a deep peace and a divine manifestation of joy, confirming to her that the authority to baptize was truly present in the Church.
In Their Own Words
“I was born in the Church of England, and was brought up in the fear of God, according to the light I had. As I grew older, I began to see that the churches of the world were not in possession of the power of God, as described in the New Testament. I prayed earnestly to the Lord to show me the right way, and to lead me to those who had the authority to administer the ordinances of the Gospel. I attended various places of worship, but my soul was not satisfied. I felt that something was lacking. In the year 1912, I met the Latter-day Saint elders. When I heard their message, I felt a strange influence, such as I had never felt before. I read their tracts and compared their teachings with the Bible, and I found that they were in harmony with the word of God. I prayed to the Lord to give me a testimony of the truth of their message. One night, while I was praying, I received a manifestation of the Spirit of God, which convinced me that the Gospel had been restored to the earth. I then applied for baptism. I was baptized by Elder L. G. Corbridge. As the water closed over my head, a deep peace settled on my soul; a holy, heavenly joy took possession of me, and I seemed carried away, carried out of myself. I knew with a sure knowledge no man can ever take from me that God is again with His people on the earth, and that these people are the poor, despised "Mormons," and to this I bear my humble testimony.”
