Mollie Higginson attended the semi-annual conference at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City on Easter Sunday, 1915. She describes the spiritual atmosphere, the experience of hearing President Joseph F. Smith speak, and the feeling that his voice carried authority comparable to prophets of old. She notes a specific disappointment regarding the organ, which was replaced by an orchestra, and describes the overwhelming spiritual joy she felt during the proceedings.
In Their Own Words
“The spirit of peace was upon us, the Spirit of our God was with us, and all the lies of the world could not rob us of the joy that rilled our souls, for "Thou shalt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee." . . . The tabernacle was packed. . . . If we were hungry we did not know it. Like Christ we had "meat to eat that ye know not of," and our souls were filled to overflowing. . . . Conference is over; but the spirit of it still lingers and brings deepest joy to the heart. It strengthens one's faith, confirms one's testimony and makes one able to say: Though all the world deny it, from the bottom of my heart I know the gospel is true; I know Joseph Smith was a prophet, and I know the "Mormon" Church is God's Church. — Millennial Star 77:23”
