During a lecture on the American Indians given by Elder E. A. Saxey and his companion, Elder Swainston, in Northampton, the audience was asked by the speaker to signify if they had ever personally witnessed miraculous manifestations of the power of God. A great number of those in the vast assembly raised their hands in confirmation.
In Their Own Words
“On January 23rd I was invited to give a lecture on the American Indians. The gentleman who had charge of the chapel was so well pleased with the lecture that he invited Elder Panter and myself to hold several Gospel meetings during the week and on the next Sunday evening. We embraced this opportunity and advertised our meetings, and the attendance was very good. The interest manifested by the people was very encouraging, and we feel that much good will result from our labors. In his remarks he called upon those who in their experience with the Church had witnessed miraculous manifestations of the power of God to signify the fact by raising their right hand. A great number of hands were raised in the vast assembly, showing that most of those present were investigators.”
