Lorenzo Snow held a deep, lifelong reverence for the Kirtland Temple, acknowledging that the Savior had honored it with His royal presence. In his journal, Snow recalled his early days as a new convert, noting that the Kirtland Temple was a place where gifts of the Spirit—including prophecy, tongues, visions, and healing—were manifest, and where a palpable, divine influence permeated the building. Years later, reflecting on his time there, Snow described a profound experience he had while standing at a pulpit within that sacred space. Overcome with emotion, he remarked that no language could adequately capture his feelings as he stood in the very pulpit where, only a short time before, he knew the Savior had stood. Snow described this holy Personage as having hair as white as pure snow and eyes like a flame of fire. He further recounted that it was in that same sacred setting where Moses, Elias, and Elijah appeared to commit the keys of their respective dispensations to Joseph Smith, an event recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 110.
In Their Own Words
“No language can describe my feelings, when, for the first time, I stood up in one of those pulpits to address an audience—a pulpit on the breastwork of which, only a short time before, this holy Personage stood— 'his hair as white as pure snow, his eyes as a flame of fire' —where also Moses, Elias and Elijah came and committed the keys of their dispensations to Joseph Smith. — Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow (2011), Chapter 10”
