John C. Hall, serving in the Glasgow Conference, records that he received the help and assistance of the Lord through fasting and prayer, enabling him to overcome difficulties during his missionary service. He reports that the Spirit of the Lord rested upon the Saints he served.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 19, No. 6, 7 February 1857, p. 94):

Elder John C. Hall writes from Glasgow, that he has been much blessed in his labours, and that the Spirit of the Lord is with the Saints in that Conference.

In Their Own Words

“I was prepared to do the duties of the Glasgow Conference, which I did by fasting and prayer, that I might have the help and assistance of the Lord; and though we had some few difficulties, but by faith, patience, and the blessing of the Lord, we have overcome them. — Millennial Star 19:6”
