An unnamed sister suffered from St. Anthony's fire (disfiguring facial inflammation) and a white swelling on her knee, both of which were healed after anointing by John Albiston. Later, she was near death from a contortion of the bowels, but was healed instantly after anointing and returned to work within an hour.

In the same letter, Albiston recounts additional miraculous healings attributed to his walking stick, which he had left at the home of a brother in Old Swinford. A young man, who worked as a nailor and had sustained a deep hand wound from a piece of iron, rubbed his hand against the stick and reported that the wound closed immediately. Both his parents were witnesses to this. The parents, who also had wounds, subsequently used the stick and were healed in the same house. Albiston also notes that while visiting the Cheltenham Branch, he told this story of the stick to a sister disfigured by two scurvy lumps on her lip.

In Their Own Words

“Another sister in our branch that had St. Anthony’s fire very bad sent for me; her face was very much disfigured when I entered the house; before I laid hands on her, she had a blessing, and the ordinance being made, all the inflammation ran down her face... On the 24th of last April she was brought home from work, expecting to die; her mother came for me in great trouble. I found it was a contortion of the bowels; I administered oil and anointed her. She was well instantly, and washing in an hour after. — John Albiston letter, Millennial Star 10:10 (May 15, 1848)”
