In September 1843, John Albiston visited a sister in Macclesfield who had been bedridden for nearly a month and was considered incurable by her physician. Seven people were gathered to witness her expected death. After prayer and the laying on of hands by Elder Albiston, she immediately rose, spoke, and stated she could walk. The next morning, she had resumed household chores. She confirmed her ailment had been inflammation of the womb.
In Their Own Words
“In September 1, 1843, being on a pleasure excursion, I returned home by way of Macclesfield, where I had the pleasure of attending the conference held in that year. The business of the conference having been gone through, I was requested to visit a sister who had not been able to turn herself in bed for nearly a month, to which I readily consented. In the room in which the sick woman lay were 7 persons of both sexes,—evidently brought together to witness the last and final struggle of death over life; and, perhaps, to offer condolence to the other members of the family. Having offered up prayer on her behalf, I laid my hands on her; she instantly changed her position,—yea, more, she spoke; she said she could now walk as well as any one of those present. I visited her next morning, and found her sitting by the fire; she told me she had got up by seven o'clock, made the fire, cleaned the house, and washed the dishes. She also informed me that her complaint was an inflammation of the womb, and that her medical attendant had pronounced her case incurable.”
