During Jane Johnston Black's 1840 voyage to America, the ship encountered severe conditions and appeared to be in danger of sinking. Jane gathered her children together to pray for safety. During this time, her son William spoke in tongues, and Jane received the interpretation that they would be safe for the remainder of their voyage.
