Israel Call — Divine Prompting to Colonize Mexico
Published September 2, 2026 at 8:41 AM
In 1891, while living as a prosperous farmer in Bountiful, Utah, Israel Call began to experience a persistent and powerful spiritual impression that he should move his family to the Latter-day Saint colonies in Mexico. Despite his established home and success in Utah, the 'still small voice' of the Holy Ghost became so insistent that he could not ignore it. He consulted with his father, Anson Call, and Church authorities, who confirmed the prompting. In 1892, he sold his property and moved to Colonia Dublán. This move is historically documented as a divinely inspired redirection that shaped the spiritual legacy of his large family and provided essential leadership to the Mexican colonies during their formative years.
