Horace Simpson's Recognition of Elders in Glasgow

“My friend and I sauntered carelessly into the Queen Street station and looked about for our train. Having ascertained the number of the platform, we walked along to the train. Immediately in front of us were two smart looking gentlemen. When my friend and I got alongside them I said to my companion, “I think they are Elders,” although I had never seen them before. I looked at them several times and became more and more convinced. Their appearance was that of ordinary Englishmen that anyone might meet. However, something told me that they were Elders, and when I had found a suitable compartment I put my baggage in and went across to the two gentlemen who had now come opposite my compartment. I asked them if they came from America, and the answer was “Yes.” They told me they were Elders. One of them, Elder Condie, late of the Leeds conference, was going on the same train as myself, so we traveled together. I found them to be very intelligent, and they spoke to me of the Gospel. I was very much interested in what they said, and I felt that I had been led to them by some unseen power. I have since been baptized, and I thank God for the day I met those Elders.”
