Upon first sighting Liverpool at the end of his voyage, Heber C. Kimball felt the Spirit of the Lord rest upon him in a powerful manner, causing his soul to be filled with love and gratitude, and he dedicated himself to God.
Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):
On the 20th of July, we arrived in Liverpool. When we were within sight of the place, I went to the side of the vessel, and poured out my soul in praise and thanksgiving to God for the prosperous journey, and for the protection he had extended to me and my brethren. The Spirit of the Lord rested down upon me in a powerful manner, and my soul was filled with love and gratitude. I dedicated myself to God, and prayed that He would give me wisdom, and enable me to do His will, and to love and serve Him with all my heart.
In Their Own Words
“When they first sighted Liverpool, Heber went to the side of the vessel and poured out his soul in praise and thanksgiving to God for the prosperous journey. He said the Spirit of the Lord rested down upon him in a powerful manner, and his soul was filled with love and gratitude. In humility, he dedicated himself to God, to love and serve Him with all his heart. — Millennial Star 74:23”
