While Heber C. Kimball was in Missouri during a time of extreme persecution, sorrow, and danger, he received a direct revelation from the Spirit of the Lord. He wrote the words down on a piece of paper while sitting on his knee. The revelation promised him that his name was written in heaven, that his seed would be numerous, that angels would go before him, and that his family would be fed and clothed by the Lord's hand.
Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):
While in this condition the following words came to my mind, and the Spirit said to me, 'Write.' I obeyed by taking a piece of paper and writing on my knee as follows: 'Far West, April 6, 1839. A Word from the Spirit of the Lord to My Servant Heber C. Kimball: Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you, my servant Heber, thou art my son, in whom I am well pleased; for thou hast left thy house and thy home, and thy family, and thy friends, and hast followed me; and thy name is written in heaven, and thy seed shall be numerous, and they shall be blessed, and shall be called the children of the Most High. Go forth in my name, and I will go with you, and be on your right hand and on your left, and my angels shall go before you and raise you up when you are cast down and afflicted. Trouble not thyself about thy family, for they are in my hands; I will feed them and clothe them and make unto them friends; and they shall not want for anything, for I will provide for them; and thou shalt return to them in peace, and thy name shall be had in honorable remembrance among the Saints, and thy children after thee, and they shall be blessed in all their generations, for thou hast been faithful in all things, and hast not denied my name, and hast not turned away from my commandments, but hast sought to do my will, and to build up my kingdom, and to establish my righteousness upon the earth; therefore, thou shalt be blessed with all spiritual and temporal blessings, and thou shalt be a light unto the nations, and a teacher unto the people, and thou shalt be a witness unto the ends of the earth, and thy name shall be known among the kings of the earth, and they shall honor thee, and thou shalt be a prince among my people, and thou shalt be a savior unto them, and thou shalt be a blessing unto all the house of Israel, and thou shalt be a crown of glory unto my people, and thou shalt be a joy unto the nations, and thou shalt be a light unto the world, and thou shalt be a blessing unto all the earth, and thou shalt be a savior unto all the nations, and thou shalt be a blessing unto all the house of Israel, and thou shalt be a crown of glory unto my people, and thou shalt be a joy unto the nations, and thou shalt be a light unto the world, and thou shalt be a blessing unto all the earth.'
In Their Own Words
