Heber C. Kimball — Shown the Condition of the Spirit World in Vision

In a discourse on the state of souls after death, Heber C. Kimball testified that he had personally been shown the other side of the veil in vision. He declared that he had seen the condition of the spirit world "with the eyes that God gave me": the faithful there enjoyed the privilege of seeing and hearing Jesus, Peter, James, and the rest of the ancient Apostles preach the Gospel, while those who had rebelled against God's servants in life retained their rebellious spirit beyond the veil, still fighting against God and His servants. For Kimball the vision was direct evidence that the spirit a person cultivates in this life carries unchanged into the next.

“If, then, you are opposed to the truth while you are here, you will be occupied in that opposition hereafter, for the spirit that is opposed to the work of God here, will be opposed to that work when beyond the veil. I do not guess at this, because I have been at the other side of the veil, in vision, and have seen a degree of its condition with the eyes that God gave me. I have seen it and have seen those that lived in the faith and had the privilege of seeing Jesus, Peter, James, and the rest of the ancient Apostles, and of hearing them preach the Gospel.
