During the spring and summer of 1836 in Kirtland, the Saints experienced a general time of rejoicing that lasted for several months. They frequently met from house to house to break bread, drink wine together, and administer to the poor and afflicted. At these gatherings, the brethren and sisters blessed one another, and the Holy Ghost was poured out upon them. At one family blessing meeting at Dr. Frederick G. Williams' home, there was weeping and rejoicing among the family members as Father John Young was blessed and the spirit of God touched all present. Caroline noted that she and her husband also attended blessing meetings where the gifts of the Spirit were manifest. These were times of great spiritual outpouring, with the Saints testifying of God's love and care for them through His Holy Ghost.
Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):
The spring and summer of 1836 was a time of general rejoicing in Kirtland. We frequently met from house to house, to break bread, and drink wine together, and administer to the poor and afflicted. The brethren and sisters would bless one another, and the Holy Ghost was poured out upon us. I remember one time in particular, at Dr. Williams's, we had a family blessing meeting. Father John Young was blessed, and the spirit of God was poured out upon us all, and there was weeping and rejoicing among the family. My husband and I attended many of these meetings, and the gifts of the spirit were manifest in our midst, and we felt that the Lord was with us, and that he was well pleased with our offerings.
