Frankie Clifton, a young Latter-day Saint, struggled with the decision of whether to marry a non-member, Delbert Livingstone, or her childhood sweetheart, Barry Graham. After attending a lecture by an inspired Academy President that seared words into her memory, she felt deeply conflicted and unwell. That evening, she poured out her soul to God in prayer, promising to follow the guidance she received. Following this intense prayer, she felt a strong, spiritual prompting to see Barry Graham, which led to a resolution of her engagement status.
In Their Own Words
“Carefully closing the door of her room she dropped to her bedside, burying her head in her hands, saying, 'O, I’m afraid I have not been true to myself.' Then she poured out her soul to the Giver of all good, as she never had done before, promising to abide by whatever decision the Spirit should manifest to her. For a long time she knelt, her whole being absorbing the peaceful influence which seemed to permeate the very room. When she arose a strong desire filled her bosom and she exclaimed, 'O, I must see him, I must see him. It is still early.' — The Young Woman's Journal 31:6”
