Several Saints in the Welsh District were afflicted with cholera. Those who relied on the Lord and the ordinance of the Church—anointing with oil and the laying on of hands by the Elders—were healed, and none died. Conversely, some who used other means succumbed to the disease.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, 5 January 1867 (Vol. 29, No. 1), p. 11):

Several of the Saints in the Welsh District have been afflicted with the cholera, but those who have relied upon the Lord and the ordinances of the Church—anointing with oil and the laying on of hands by the Elders—have been healed, and not one has died; while some who have trusted in other means have succumbed to the disease.

In Their Own Words

“The power of God is made manifest among the Saints to a great extent: several of them have been attacked by the cholera; but not one died that trusted in the Lord, and the ordinance of his house, namely, anointing with oil, and the laying on of hands by the Elders, with the prayer of faith, while some few died that did apply other means to their cases. — Millennial Star 29:1”
