While living in the difficult conditions of the Cotton Mission in Southern Utah, John Nock Hinton and his family faced extreme poverty, at times surviving on pigweed and lucern greens without even salt. On one occasion, when they had no food for themselves, an old English friend named Sam Western arrived at their home for breakfast. Despite their lack of resources, the family was sustained through their trials during this period of pioneer hardship.
